The role of a translator is to act as a mediator between two parties. Translation requires honesty and trust; therefore, outputs from the translator are implied as impartial and objective.

The Lantern of Subjectivity sheds light on the profession of the translator and the history of translation in cultural exchange. The architectural device of the void – one light and one dark - creates two

juxtaposed atmospheric conditions.

The building provides transparency in the act of translation, with the intent of leaving the visitors with an understanding of their subjective stance on information communicated to them – regardless of their sources.
